Why won’t English players be available for the full IPL? According to a report by Cricbuzz, the ECB is ready to recall its players during the final stages of IPL 2022 to prepare for the series against New Zealand.

England kick off their summer against New Zealand in June in a three-Test series, but after the Ashes debacle the ECB will recall their players for ideal red-ball preparation ahead of the series.

Which English cricketers can be affected? Some of the England Test team regulars like Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer and Chris Woakes have already pulled out of the IPL 2022 Auction.

The likes of Jonny Bairstow, Ollie Pope, Mark Wood, Dawid Malan Craig Overton, Sam Billings and Dan Lawrence all remain in contention to be picked up by franchises.

Jos Buttler, who once captained England, has already been booked for Rs 11 crore by the Rajasthan Royals.

Their will be a question mark over the availability of these cricketers for the entire duration of the IPL.

What will IPL franchises do? Although no official communication has been made, it is believed that franchises have been advised to prepare for such an eventuality as they develop their plans for the IPL 2022 auction.

It remains to be seen how this news could potentially alter the plans and prices players would get in the auction.

Twenty-two England players have signed up for the IPL mega auction, including several who took part in England’s recent test plans.
