We have all heard about the importance of your credit scores when it comes to buying a home. But credit is also important for renting. Some landlords won’t rent to people with low credit scores. That doesn’t mean, however, that you can’t rent a house or an apartment. There are ways around this problem and prove to a potential owner that you can afford to pay and that you will make the payments on time.

1. Find a co-signer

You might have bad credit, but if you have a friend or family with good credit, ask them for help. (But know that they would be doing you a huge favor; adding someone’s name to your lease is of great benefit to you and carries a significant risk for them.) co-signer is someone who signs the lease with you and takes legal responsibility for making sure the rent is paid. A co-signer with good credit should facilitate your potential owner concerns.

2. Offer a larger deposit

If you want to show your landlord that you won’t skip payments, you can offer a larger down payment. Often times, landlords require the first and last month’s rent when you move in. If you can save more and give them a few months’ rent up front, they can forget about your bad credit scores. Be careful, however, because if it gives the owner more security, it gives you less.

3. Have a personal reference

If your credit is bad but you have a good rental history, get a previous owner to vouch for you. Hear from a previous owner that you have paid your rent time in the past can carry a lot of weight with a potential owner. He or she may be willing to ignore this low credit rating and accept your request.

4. Talk about it

Do not avoid the elephant in the room. Address your bad credit frankly and honestly. You can explain why your scores are low and why it does not accurately reflect your ability to regularly pay your rent. Owners recognize the tough times of the past few years and can appreciate your honesty.

5. Find a rental no credit check

Not all rentals require a credit check. Look for small homeowners who don’t do a credit check as part of the application process. It may take a bit more work, but it may be worth it.

6. Improve your credit

Even if you find a rental with bad credit, start improving your credit right away for the next time. Make your payments on time. Reduce your debt. Monitor your credit reports, which you can get for free from each of the major credit bureaus once a year, and your credit scores. (You can use a free tool like Credit.com’s Credit Report Card, which updates two of your credit scores each month.) Make yourself a more attractive rental candidate so you don’t have to worry about it. worry when you move.

The EE TV platform is not as complete as some of its rivals, but it has some unique features and is cheaper than the competition. It is only available with EE broadband and there are benefits for anyone who also takes out a mobile contract with EE.

Overview

Number of channels 99
Technology the Internet
Can we bundle with broadband? Obligatory
Digital decoder EE TV Box
Price from £ 32.50 per month

Canals

In terms of channels on EE TV, it’s a hybrid between Freeview and streaming services. You might be wondering what is the point of subscribing to a pay TV service when you only get free channels, but EE TV’s value is in the box and the features it allows. More on that later.

There are 70 completely free channels via your antenna as well as 11 HD channels. These include the high definition versions of BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5. If you don’t have an HD tuner in your TV, this is already an improvement.

The EE TV Box supports a wide range of catch-up TV programs, subscription streaming services and multimedia applications. BBC iPlayer and Demand 5 are on board, as are apps for YouTube, Deezer and live sports action via BBC Sport. There’s also Hayu’s reality TV and hit Rakuten TV movies.

There are, however, a few notable absentees. There is no support for Netflix or Amazon Prime, which immediately puts it at a disadvantage compared to other streaming devices. BT, Sky, Virgin Media and TalkTalk all offer Netflix on their TV platforms. The ITV Hub is also missing – so it’s not possible to watch Coronation Street on demand – just like All 4.

It is very curious that there is no way to get BT Sport on EE TV either. Since EE is owned by BT, you would think there would be a dedicated app. It’s a shame, because that would have been a big selling point.

Digital decoder

We’ve established that EE TV is a low cost upgrade from Freeview, so why would you pay for it? The answer is the box.

The EE TV box allows you to record up to four programs at a time. And it’s possible to store up to 600 hours of standard definition or 300 hours of HD video on a 1TB hard drive. This compares favorably to offerings from EE rivals.

Additionally, you can designate eight favorite SD channels, or six HD channels, and EE TV will record the entire day’s TV. You can also filter by genre, so you can easily record movies, dramas or sports. This means that if you tune in halfway through a program, you can start over from the beginning.

But what’s really impressive about EE TV is how it works with your smartphone or tablet. You can watch live or recorded TV on four devices in the house simultaneously and switch between them seamlessly.

The EE TV app doubles as a remote control, so you can browse the TV guide without interrupting other viewers. You can also set remote recording instructions when you are on the go.

Unfortunately, you cannot download programs to watch away from home, as you can with Sky Q.

Compare EE TV packages

Additional modules

NOW TV and TV player

They are not add-ons as such, as you cannot pay for them through your EE account. And you can sign up for it without having EE TV. But you can watch them through the EE TV box and they will complement your Freeview channels well.

TV Player Plus offers 32 TV channels including Eurosport, HISTORY and Discovery Channel without long term contract. NOW TV means you can get the best Sky content and channels like Sky Atlantic on your EE TV box – again without a contract.

MUBI and Rakuten TV

Again, these are not strictly EE add-ons. But if you’re a movie buff, you might want to consider subscribing to one or both of these apps. You’ll get a good mix of summer blockbusters, old favorites, and Oscar winners. EE also offers discounts for various applications from time to time, so keep an eye out.

Multi screen

EE TV does not offer additional boxes like Sky’s Multiroom service, but that doesn’t mean you can’t watch it from another room. In fact, your family can watch up to four different programs around the house at the same time on the TV or on a phone or tablet.

If you move from room to room, you can “flip” a program from your device to your TV or “grab” it from the TV to your device if you want to leave the room.

Packages and packages

Bundles with broadband

Anyone who signs up for EE Broadband can also use EE TV for an additional monthly fee. EE offers standard broadband of 10 Mbps on average and two fiber broadband plans on average of 36 Mbps and 67 Mbps. It’s worth buying fiber if you plan to get the most out of EE TV’s streaming capabilities.

You can add landline or mobile calls at any time, and even international calls for an additional charge. And if you are already an EE mobile and broadband customer, you will enjoy an increase in mobile data of between 5 GB and 50 GB per month.

Once you’ve chosen your broadband plan, you simply add EE TV to your plan and that’s it. There is no setup fee and since EE TV connects through a home antenna (which you should already have) and your home broadband connection (which is required), there is no setup.

If you take EE Broadband and EE TV, you will be bound to an 18 month contract.

TV only

You can’t get EE TV as a standalone product – you have to use EE home broadband to get it. While this may be fine for someone looking for a new supplier, it will put off others in the middle of a contract or those who don’t want to change.

It’s also not possible to add EE TV to a mobile subscription, so getting EE broadband is really the only option.

Our final verdict

Good

  • Good box with 1TB of storage
  • Watch on phones and tablets around the house
  • Data augmentation for EE mobile customers

The bad

  • Only has Freeview channels
  • No access to Netflix, Amazon Prime or BT Sport
  • Only available with EE broadband

The multiscreen and mobile viewing features are so impressive that it’s a shame they’re limited to the basic line of Freeview channels. But what really disappoints the service is the lack of some of the more popular streaming services.

It’s also worth pointing out that you don’t actually own the box and must return it to the company if you decide to end your subscription.

If you are looking for premium service, EE TV is not for you. Of course, you can access Sky Sports through NOW TV, but there is no BT Sport. Likewise, Sky Cinema is available but there is no Netflix.

But if you’re happy with Freeview, are on the fence about your next broadband provider, and want a relatively cheap upgrade that lets you pause and record live TV, then EE TV might be worth a look.

Netflix introduces HERMES, the first online subtitling and translation testing and indexing system by a leading content creator. Hermes is the 90 Minute Netflix Translator Test. It is used by Netflix’s distribution associates, to qualify freelancers for captioning jobs with the world’s leading Internet entertainment service.

The company can use HERMES not only to monitor translators, but also to associate them with jobs that highlight their strengths. HERMES invites users to help generate captions for Netflix’s content list in over 20 different languages. They will serve as subcontractors through local associated companies and will be paid according to the amount of translation and subtitling.

Netflix is not only the love of its fast growing global fans, but also freelancers looking for work. However, as it expands globally, the need for translators is increasing as it seems to support users in different new regions. Management says it is approaching a limit where English will not be the first viewing experience on Netflix. Netflix has said it is ending its closed captioning and translation testing program and indexing system for further testing.

While HERMES can accomplish what it is supposed to do, getting the job done by more or less experienced freelance translators may not be the best option. Without carefully checking their credentials and experience and without a proven translation process and additional proofreading, get accurate translation services can be a problem.

Nevertheless, we will review the Netflix HERMES test:

The first difficulty is to pass the Netflix entrance test via their dedicated HERMES online door. If you look at online discussion forums, the measure of success is shallow because you need high scores to pass the test, with each language being calculated differently based on the availability of qualified translators.

Here is how the HERMES test works.

Register your details here https://tests.hermes.nflx.io/

It will provide you with your unique number starting with an H plus eight digits. You will get your H number by SMS.

It will send you a unique URL which is the sequence of the Netflix HERMES URL plus your H number. You cannot perform the test on your mobile but only on a computer.

Open the link on your computer and sign in with your mobile number and your H number to use for the Hermes test. There should be five or six quizzes, of which the first four are multiple choice questions and the last two are closed captioning test tasks. You have almost two hours to finish.

Make sure you have good internet access as you will need to run video content.

You will get your result after a week, but depending on the number of candidates taking the test at any given time, you may get your result immediately or after a few weeks.

The test aims to assess your language skills based on the extent to which you can convey expressions from one language to another, remaining as faithful as possible to actual dialogue.

The test consists of thousands of random combinations of questions so that no test is the same. The series includes multiple-choice questions asked at precise speed, intended to test the candidate’s knowledge of understanding English, translating local sentences into their target language, recognizing grammatical and technical errors and providing an accurate translation service.

The backstory

Matt: I am bilingual Korean / English. I figured it would be fun to take the admissions test and see if I could improve myself to continue being part of Netflix’s pool of freelance subtitle translators. I did not understand that such a process has many flaws and aims to separate the majority of candidates. In a nutshell, Netflix was a game of its media coverage success when it announced its translation chance. The system couldn’t keep up with the volume of applications, and people had been waiting for weeks for the results of their admissions tests.

Netflix discovering freelance translators directly may be a clue that intermediary “sellers” are not giving translators fairly to achieve adequate quality. While this will include the general project management work of the Netflix team, they will likely be able to verify the level of quality of the translations they choose.

Benefits and Risks

For a company that needs translation work, such translator testing platform can analyze its search for translators.

In addition, it allows the quality level of translations to be checked, and the lack of a common register for global translators could be paid for. A translator can also be justified on the basis of his translation product. It should be noted that translators do not represent the same level of competence in all styles. You could be good at translating sitcom series, but poor at translating science fiction, for example.

As for the risks of this recruitment program, the prices granted to captioning professionals are constantly revised downwards. Since there is no mutual contract, these professionals could find themselves in an uncertain position. Ultimately, the race for maximum profitability is at the heart of the event. According to professional translators, this could lead to a drop in quality and therefore result in lower quality translations.

While A quiet place is more than just a horror film, it excels as an exceptional example of the genre. The suspense is indeed created in most films by the absence of sound; here, since every scene (even those where no threat seems to exist) depends on the tranquility of this family, Krasinski continually keeps his audience on the lookout. In an age of notoriously obnoxious and talkative moviegoers, Krasinski has made a film that strongly encourages (if not completely compels) audiences to shut up.

There are pieces that reminded me Aliens and 10 Cloverfield Road, as well as M. Night Shyamalan’s The village and Panels but, rightly, it is the family dynamic that provides the most dramatic power. There has not been extensive use of American Sign Language in a mainstream American film since Children of a Lesser God. In fact, there is very little spoken dialogue, as the majority of exchanges are delivered in ASL and presented in subtitles. The trips back and forth between the children and their parents are refreshing, rich in emotions and moving.

The key to Krasinski’s success as an actor has always been his eyes: his funny and hilarious close-ups like Jim Halpert on Office reportedly worked in silent comedies. Here he says little but his expressions capture the fatherly love and barely concealed despair of his character. Blunt is excellent and features some of the most grueling scenes in the movie. Jupe is touching in her shared scenes with Krasinski, in which a boy struggles to control his fear in front of his father. But Simmonds’ performance and character gives the film its heart. Simmonds, who is deaf in real life, tells of a girl who fears she has forever lost the bond she shared with her father; the emotions and character dynamics between parents and their children feel genuine and complex.

Everything about this production is exceptional, although the sound design is particularly remarkable. The only thing I didn’t like about the whole movie was seeing Michael Bay’s name in the end credits: yes, the movie frontman of “Bay-hem” is the executive producer of the movie. This and Ouija: the origin of evil are the only major upcoming films from production company Platinum Dunes of Bay to date. Bay is very lucky to have her name attached to such a strong movie.

Krasinski’s third film as a director is never wrong. Fans who have noted his impressive dramatic work in films like Promised land and 15 hours will nevertheless be surprised by what he achieves here, in front of and behind the camera. Considering the unique demands that the filmmakers faced (a horror tale mixed with family drama, presented primarily in ASL, via tour de force sound design), this makes the end result all the more extraordinary. . Krasinski has fashioned a masterpiece.

SMARTY is a SIM-only mobile network that promises to be simple, transparent and good value for money. It is directly owned by Three and operates on the Three network. It is one of several mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) in the UK that use one of the ‘big four’ networks – EE, O2, Three and Vodafone – to deliver their services.

But what does it bring to the UK market, how is it different from Three and is it worth taking a look at? Let’s take a look at the details.

Rates and plans

For an operator negotiating on its simplicity, it’s no shock to learn that SMARTY only has three plans – 30GB, 50GB, and unlimited data. The three plans offer unlimited calls and texts under the usual conditions attached.

All plans are available on an ongoing monthly basis (30 days) instead of signing up for 12 months, so there is no minimum duration and you can use your entire allowance for tethering if you wish it. This means that you can connect a tablet or PC to your mobile data connection by creating a personal Wi-Fi hotspot on your smartphone. And because you pay in advance, SMARTY doesn’t require a credit check.

If you are looking for a pay-as-you-go plan, SMARTY will charge you a small initial amount for the SIM card and then pay £ 1 per gigabyte you use. It will usually be best to just buy a 30-day rolling plan each month, as long as you use enough data to justify it.

Range of phones and devices

SMARTY does not offer a phone / handset, so you will need to have one already. If you want to keep your existing phone number, you can – just get a PAC code from your current provider to do so.

Customer service

The SMARTY customer service team is available seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (excluding holidays), but this is limited to online chat and email only because, ironically for a mobile phone network, it there is no phone number to call. There’s also a database of frequently asked questions for you to check out, if you need a simple answer.

Being a new operator, and relatively minor, SMARTY does not appear in Ofcom’s complaint figures, nor in its customer satisfaction rankings (although host network Three does). As always, online reviews should be taken with a pinch of salt, as customers tend to report negative experiences more often than positive, but from the limited sample on TrustPilot, SMARTY has an average rating.

The main complaints tend to be about the delivery of the SIM card and not using the SIM card for business purposes. SMARTY makes it clear that its SIM cards are for personal use only and anyone seeking a business deal should look elsewhere.

Value for money

SMARTY’s pricing plans certainly compare favorably with those of the competition, especially when you take into account the lack of a minimum-term contract. But in keeping with its no-frills approach, there aren’t any additional perks to speak of. What’s really unique about SMARTY is the way it manages your data allocation. Several operators now offer “data transfer”, which means that any unused gigabyte can be used the following month. SMARTY does things differently and actually gives you a discount on your next bill.

This is limited to the only data portion of your contract (you always pay a base rate for calls and texts outside of the terms of your unlimited allowances), so it’s a great way to make sure you don’t overpay. expensive for data. If you have the opposite problem, you can actually add additional data, which never expires.

There is also the possibility of getting a free monthly allowance. If you refer a friend, you both get one month free. This can be done for multiple friends, so if you ask 12 friends to join, you will get a whole year for free.

Network coverage

Because SMARTY uses Three’s network, you should be in good hands. Its 4G (and soon 5G) network covers 99.8% of the UK population and the operator has rolled out new spectrum in recent years to extend coverage even further, especially indoors.

Based on the most recent testing by independent benchmark company RootMetrics, Three ranks second in the UK behind EE for overall performance and second in reliability, data and text categories. It’s first in the calling category, but its speeds lag behind EE and Vodafone.

It should be noted that since Three does not have a 2G network, there is no 2G coverage. So if you plan to use a really old cell phone, you can’t. And unlike Three, there is no support for Voice over LTE (VoLTE), also known as HD calling.
